Dale Benson | Croix Valley Pit Crew | Illinois

As a passionate home cook for decades, Dale Benson decided to give food sport a try in June 2021 by entering his first SCA competition. Earning a 4th place call in steak and a 5th place call in ancillary, he hasn’t looked back since. He has garnered multiple wins and earned entry into the SCA world championship in both steak and ancillary the past two years. When not cooking steaks in a parking lot,
he loves to feed his family. A student of all cuisines, dinner may be Thai, Indian, BBQ, or whatever inspires him.

Being an outside salesperson for a building products company gives Dale much opportunity to talk about food with his customers. Weekends are often filled with multiple calls and texts from customers and friends looking for advice on their own culinary adventures.

A lovely wife, 4 daughters, 4 granddaughters, a grandson, and 3 naughty Alaskan Malamutes keep him more than busy. As he always says in SCA competitions, everything he cooks is seasoned with “a little bit of dog hair”.
