Jay and Wendy Kassera | Wisconsin | Croix Valley Pro Team
Jay and Wendy are both SCA competitors. Jay has long been a backyard griller, providing steak for family and friends. His interest excelled when his family started having annual backyard competitions. Being a former race car driver, cooking competitions brought out two things Jay loves. Cooking on a grill and competing.
Jay and Wendy joined the Fox Valley Barbeque Club in 2016. This group expanded their knowledge of grills, smokers, charcoal, spices, rubs and competitions. Jay started building smokers out of old drums but liked the idea of being able to cook in a competition.
Jays started competing as an SCA competitor in 2018, winning his first Golden ticket at his 3rd event. Wendy’s cooking interest has always been sides and desserts. She joined as a SCA competitor in 2021, winning her first Golden Ticket at her 2nd event at the Croix Valley Cookoff. They enjoy being part of the SCA family as it has allowed them to meet many people and make new friends. They view each competition as an exciting challenge.
Jay and Wendy enjoy experimenting with new recipes and trying new flavors. Croix Valley’s spices, rubs and sauces have allowed them to expand and add that extra flavor to new recipes. Wendy’s favorite way to experiment with Croix Valley flavors is by adding them to vegetables, as well as her sides. Jay says the Croix Valley flavors have brought his grilling and smoking to a new level of excellence.
