Croix Valley Grillmeister Mitch Boyd | February 2022

Mitch has the BBQ itch!

We've been in the BBQ game for over a decade now, and we're still thrilled when people love our products as much as Mitch does. This guy goes out of his way to share delicious meals with his friends and family, and he lets people know that he got it done with Croix Valley! We appreciate you Mitch, and you deserve Croix Valley Grillmeister this month!

Let's learn a little more about Mitch...

Mitch loves his small country town in Alabama where tractors and combines travel down tiny dusty roads. He has three daughters, one known as "Little Human." She loves to help in the kitchen and at work. He's been in the flooring installation business for about 23 years, but has been grilling a lot longer.

On to the questions!

When did you get into grilling, and how often do you fire it up?

I was 14 when I decided to go out and fire up the charcoal grill and after 34 years I still have a lot to learn. I have been using a pellet grill lately, which frees up a little time to prep sides. My favorite is an offset wood burner.

Name one grilling technique you’ve learned that has served you well.

Not sure if I have certain techniques but I have learned to cook a pork shoulder hot and fast, yet still tender.

What’s the most unique thing you’ve grilled or cooked?

Two weird things I've smoked are peanut butter filled pretzels (yummy), and acorns for the birds.

Tell us about your most memorable day around the grill.

The most memorable grilling day was about 12 years ago when our middle daughter came running inside. She said "is the grill supposed to have flames coming out of the sides and top?" I had a five burner gasser full of chops, chicken, and country style ribs. I did manage to save only 3 chicken tenders - Well half of 3 because one side was black :)

Last but not least, what are your favorite Croix Valley products?

Croix Valley Sweet & Smoky Competition BBQ Sauce is amazing, as well as Cattle Drive Rub. The rub has a complex flavor and surprise sweetness that is like no other. I am so glad to have found Lu Holter on Facebook and watched her compete on BBQ Brawl. That led to me placing an order for some of the best products available. All Hail Croix Valley!
